Dear Wounded TV,

Posted by Tina in ink | Posted in Articles | Posted on 28-02-2012

Like the hurt and avenging soldier,
Tricked into a losing battle
Your vengeful demeanor
Is all that is left

I know you are broken
T ‘was an accident
I assure thee
most profoundly

I did not know,
Where lighting struck once
Could ever strike
Again and again.

Yes, I was wrong,
But I have made amends
You are not broken
Merely wounded

Yet why are you still
Full of spite
Why do you hate
And torture me so?

My one request,
Please let go
Whatever anger
Meant for me.

And let me watch
Just one good movie
For I haven’t
In oh so long

But you refuse
You give me reruns
And reruns
Again and again.

But even a wounded soldier
Shall meet a battle
He cannot win
Nor wish to fight

And pray that day,
Be made for you and I
Lest my mind be lost to insanity
From one too many reruns.

Master Degree – Possibility of a Foreign Collaboration in Amaljyothi

Posted by baadshah | Posted in Campus Daily | Posted on 28-02-2012

Amaljyothi’s academic spectrum has broadened in the last two years with the addition of post graduate degree programs. As pioneers in technical education, we are bound by our commitments to the society and providing master degree courses to the students is one among those commitments. Quality master degree courses with international exposure would be a dream of any student who wishes to build up a strong career.

A foreign collaboration would give our students a great push. Very recently the college had its first round of discussions with the Deakin University, Australia about Developing dual Masters Program in Engineering, Identifying and developing strategies for key collaborative research areas and establishing possible staff and student academic exchange program / short term study tour. It would be a great advantage if we could complete the first two semesters of our M-Tech course here and do the rest in some foreign university and this would have been the primary topic of the discussion.

Prof. K. Baskaran, Associate Dean (International), Faculty of Science and Technology (Chair in Civil Engineering) School of Engineering, Deakin University led the discussions with our deans, HOD’s and senior faculties. In future we may be able to see some foreign students coming over here for doing their research or some of our students going to other countries to complete their studies. The current final years have a chance, if the discussions are getting accelerated. All these significant developments will cement our position among the top class academic institutions of our nation.

LADY BRIDGE gets media hype. . .

Posted by baadshah | Posted in Campus Daily | Posted on 26-02-2012

Amaljyothi’s prestigious and unique feature – the LADY BRIDGE got a spot in MALAYALA MANORAMA, one of the leading daily news papers in the country. The news paper that came out the other day had an exclusive coverage about this “link” that connects our ladies hostel with the college. As no other campus in Kerala can claim such a facility, the news would indeed give us a distinction.

However the article clearly says that boys are not allowed to walk over this bridge. Since the commissioning of this wonderful bridge our boys were getting discriminated. When the women walk across the sky bisecting the clouds with pride, our men folk would use the dust covered land route for their journey. So the students request the management to think seriously about a “GENTLEMEN’s BRIDGE”. Each day Amaljyothi adds new and new beads to her necklace made out of stone, cement and bricks and we hope that in a very short time the guys will get their chance to walk over their own bridge.

Evening cricket matches – the beginning of a new trend in Amaljyothi

Posted by baadshah | Posted in Campus Daily | Posted on 23-02-2012

If cricket is our religion, then Sachin will be our God” – this is a mantra that is being sung by almost a billion Indians. The impact of this game and its influence over the youth is tremendous. A lot of people will be against this but in a span of 30 years this sport has transformed itself into a new mode of communication. Today it is not just a game but a business that reaps millions. It seems the students of Amaljyothi want to be a part of this great sport in a big way.

Amaljyothi is having a college cricket team and the management is supporting the team in every possible way. A new trend has started and students are extremely excited about this. Many have padded up and walked across our ground occasionally but now we have at least two matches every day. Mixed branch matches and branch wise matches are now common. Almost all of the final years are showing extreme interest in this.

Daily practice will definitely increase your skills and being victorious each time is not a silly thing. May be from next year onwards we could possibly start an AMALJYOTHI PREMIER LEAGUE or an ENGINEER’S PREMIER LEAGUE. Now, during the day time, the students have nothing else but cricket to talk about. All the games were conducted very smoothly and maintaining the sportsman spirit like this is a huge achievements. There may be great players amongst us waiting for an opportunity to shine. Let us wait patiently and watch the coming games to find out the ultimate heroes

A Walk with Karthik,The Hunt for Ethnic Tastes – Part 3

Posted by baadshah | Posted in Articles | Posted on 20-02-2012

The hunt is back once again and I still continue to ride with my dear friend Karthik over and over. Our 16 year old friendship gets cemented strongly with each such ride. In my prayers, I have always asked the almighty to keep me in such a position, whereby I can repay him some day (at least these restaurant bills).

This time it is one of the favorite hotspots of amalites – the KOCHUVARKEY’S Restaurant, Kanjirappally. Almost on all evenings amalites go there and hang out a little bit. You can’t get tastier food anywhere else in this place and of course with a wide range of variety. One special thing about them is their timing. From 3.00pm in the afternoon till late night. And this is the perfect time for those people who consider the metro life better than the village life. From semester 6 to semester 8, engineers of Amaljyothi will be having a really bad time. Late night stay is unavoidable even for the day scholars and during such adverse time, restaurants like KOCHUVARKEY’S are our only hope.

alfam chicken

It was during the period of AZURE and this time I had three of my very good friends along with me and Karthik. For us KOCHUVARKEY’S means “THE ALFAM CHICKEN + KUBBOOS”. Even though they have got many other varieties made out of chicken, this one’s taste will continue to haunt you for sure. I don’t know the exact methodology they use to cook this particular food item but when we get it, the chicken will be neatly fried with a brownish color over its body. The meat won’t be cooked hard and that is the best part of it. The full ALFAM will have eight pieces and will serve 4 people quite decently. The range starts from quarter that has got two pieces of meat. You will get 2 KUBBOOS free with it. For me, KUBBOOS is the best combination with ALFAM. A sweet lime juice with lot of ice cubes in it will be the perfect ending for such a superb feast. As usual, my friend Karthik sponsored me once again.

A restaurant like the KOCHUVARKEY’S does two big favors for us. First of all it keeps our stomach cool. Secondly when we go with our friends we get some time to ease out our sorrows. Long 4 years of B-Tech life and I have lost many of my pleasures in my normal life. I have blamed the nasty educational system for this. If at all I am forgiving them, then it is because of these good moments. So our hunt for the good food and great chefs will go on forever. Don’t forget to stop by this place the next time you come to kanjirappally. Until then, good bye.

FACT FILE # 16: The perfectly good-for-everything educational system

Posted by Tina in ink | Posted in Articles | Posted on 14-02-2012

I have learned my lesson, and no, I will never again criticize the educational system ever again. Being a legal adult, it is time I put my pride and prejudices aside, and actually considered all the good things that today’s educational system is bringing forth.

For instance, today I learned that in a very small school, the 8th standard students will be learning from the 10th standard textbooks. This, like most facts, makes absolutely perfect sense. After all, who would want those children to learn the basics of science and math? The answer is obvious, teach them stuff that is two levels greater than what they do now. That way, they can get smarter faster, and skip the useless junk.

This development is surely as a result of the realization of how boring education really is. After all, the only thing that 8th graders learn in 8th standard are the basics of science and math and all those other dreadful subjects, which I am sure they can do without. They’re doing the youth of today a favor.

I’m sure the educational system is doing a number of perfectly wonderful things, such as the statement stated above. I take back every bad thing I have ever said about the system, and must say, how extraordinarily wonderfully magnificently spectacularly beyond-belief-amazing the educational system is today. (And if you think I’m being sarcastic, you are so wrong).

After all, why would a building need a sturdy foundation, as long as it has interior decoration and is exteriorly landscaped by an artist?

Once again, as unsarcastically and factually as possible
forever, and always

The real “AMALJYOTHI” turned 60

Posted by baadshah | Posted in Campus Daily | Posted on 14-02-2012

“At the right most end of the resource block, right next to the chapel, there is a small room… A smiling face in white priestly cloak would welcome you and people from outside call him The Principal of Amal Jyothi. For us HE IS AMALJYOTHI” – these were the words used by our comperes to describe Rev. Dr. Jose Kannampuzha during Azure 2012. True to the words, he is our light, he is our guide and he is our pride. Our dear Jose Achan turned 60 , the real Amal Jyothi turned 60.

60 years of life has given him a lot of names from various fields. He is he only priest to head an engineering institution in Kerala and his voice would shake any walls. Behind the success of any great institution, there will be the presence of a great visionary. It is under the leadership of Fr. Jose that we achieved so much in such a short span of time. We must call this as ‘the reign of Fr. Jose’. Jose achan was instrumental in the start up of many things. For some years he headed the Jeevan TV. Former students of NSS College Palakkad still remember him for routing their lives into glory. He played a key role in starting the student training program known as the TURNING POINT.

The list of adjectives and achievements will never end when we start to speak about this living legend. He will speak louder than anyone else and his actions speak louder than those words. In our heart, along with the pictures of Lord Jesus and Lord Krishna, we have his picture too. Let the Almighty bestow all his blessings upon him. Its late but still Happy Birth day dear Jose Acha.

“Let your questions be direct” – says Murthy

Posted by baadshah | Posted in Campus Daily | Posted on 09-02-2012

narayanmurthy at amaljyothiThe Malayala manorama Mastermind contest came to a glorious end here on 8th of February. Amaljyothi raised and stood on her feet to bow before the legendary entrepreneur and founder of IT giant INFOSYS, Padma Vibhushan Dr. N R Narayana Murthy. We would like to call it a day when the young scientists from various schools and colleges were honored by the great man himself. Mr. Murthy was here for almost two and a half hours along with the Mr. Jacob Mathew, the executive editor of Malayala Manorama.

The guests arrived here at amaljyothi at around 10.15 in the morning and had a brief discussion with the principal, deans and the students. It was indeed a shock for all of us, watching the enthusiasm and vigor of him. Instead of just listening to the presentations of the college and the students, he showed extreme interest in knowing the details and giving necessary guidance. Mr. Murthy insisted the college authorities and the students to utilize our strength properly. According to him, engineers are bound answer problems that require a technological solution. A transformation from technical education to technological education is needed and Mr. Murthy himself explained how he was taught by the teachers of his time. He remembered that out of the 13 companies that started along with them, only Infosys made it this further. Mr. Murthy said that the secret behind his success was nothing but the right combination of strategy, human power and technology. He advised the young engineers of amaljyothi, that a product or service becomes valuable only when people are willing to pay for it.

The prize distribution ceremony was blessed by the presence of Mr. G Vijaya Raghavan, the chief of mastermind jury panel and Mr. mathews varghese, associate editor of Mamalyala Manorama. Mr Jacob Mathew and Mr Narayana murthy addressed the gathering. After the prize distribution ceremony, he found some time to take part in a small interactive session with the students and participants. He appreciated the students for being direct. Due to lack of time he could answer only some of the questions. Mr. Murthy’s comments will definitely motivate the future entrepreneurs of our college as well as others. His passion for his work was evident from his speech and there is no wonder how Infosys climbed up the ladder to become one of the best companies in the world. It was indeed a great honor to share the same soil with such an iconic figure and we are eagerly waiting for the next year’s Mastermind contest.
