Do your parents complain too much about your internet addiction. Don’t worry, here is an answer to them. Now a days the social networking can earn you a decent job. Many people, mostly the young students are getting hired on the web 2.0. So how does it work or rather how do they really hire because of a networking profile.

In a recent survey it came across that students actively use social media to research companies and confirm whether employers and their brand messages live up to the reality and almost half of students use social media sites to chat with peers about recruitment process. In addition about 30% students chat with current employees to check if their expectations of a particular employer were met, after being taken on. The survey also mentioned that 42% of the students feel social media is the ideal platform to communicate employer brand and 56% agree social networking sites allow candidates to get a feel of company’s culture. But there is also another side of the survey. The companies also use the very same networking site to filter and choose the right candidate. A look into the who, what and how about the social networking sites and their importance in your career building.

A lot has been said about how companies are using social networks site like facebook and myspace to screen prospective candidates even before the interview process begins. The hottest development on the internet in the last few years has become a place for people to meet, make friends, share personal stories, exchange information and get ahead in their careers. These include casual networking sites like facebook, orkut as well as professional sites like the linkedin and ryze. Realizing their potentials smart head hunters have ensured, to have presence on these sites as they go about on their search for the right candidate, linkedin by far the biggest professional networking site with over 200,000 recruiters registered.
Scanning profiles of people registered on social media, these HR professionals are often able to find candidates who may otherwise have not been traceable. And these are only those who are actively looking for a change. Often these sites throw up people who are in the job market only passively, or waiting for a job they would love. So if you haven’t started taking up your networking seriously then do it. It may show you the right way towards a successful career. Opportunities never knock your door twice.

are engineers from our state really employable?
We often talk a lot on unemployment. Discussions debate and conversations have been made about the same. But its time to make a diversion in our thoughts. Is it really unemployment that we are facing or something else. What about unemployability among us.
The companies that come to recruit students to their firms repeatedly say that its not unemployment that we are facing but it is unemployability. The recruiters fail to get students who are really employable, who really possess the skills that are actually needed for a job and not just the degree. At this point many of us fail because till now we don’t have a crystal clear idea on what is expected out of us.
A degree wont do any good to our ambition of having a bright career. It needs some other things too. Primarilu it is the soft skills in which communication is an important factor. The right and efficient method of communication is still staying a mile apart from our hand reach and unless we master that we wont be able to perform in any firms. An engineer is not a machine that mugs up everything that is taught to him ir her. But he has some responsibilities and much more is expected from them.
