How can almighty sit idle when 1900 young lads celebrated the festival of glory, the festival of nature ,the festival of kerala and above all the festival of all festivals – ONAM ,with one heart and one soul. No odds stood against us and no causes could turn down our noble effort. It was indeed a feast to eyes heart and soul. Butterflies danced and nature sung. From the early dawn till late noon, we stood as one, hand in hand and enjoyed the divine rhythm of ONAM.

It was a combined effort from the part of the college management and the student council to make this a great success and it didn’t go in vain. It was the strong desire from the student council that turned everything in favour of the rest of the college. Inaugural ceremony was made colourful by the presence of the cine artists – the celebrities from the film MALARVADI ARTS CLUB. It turned out to be one of the most memorable occasions in AJCE. The college saw the stars studded dais becoming the cynosure once again.

The events started as scheduled. Athappookkalam was seen as one of the prestigious events and almost every batches registered for it. Entire floors in the central complex were turned into a flower garden. Where ever you go you could see only the colour of jamanthi and bandhi and you could only feel the odour of jasmine. At 8.30 the students gathered in the area allocated for them. Two hours, that was the time allocated for drawing and decorating the flower carpet. Senior students were roaming all over the building to make it sure that only 10 students from each class are there for design and decoration purpose. Within the allowed 1.2m diameter all tried to make wonders. Even though only 3 could be selected from every year, no batches could be ruled out and it was a head ache for the teachers to select the best out of the best.

Mean while the tug of war, malayali manka and kerala purushan were there in the basket ball ground and auditorium respectively. All the stylish malayali guys and beautiful girls rocked the campus. Selection was pretty tough. Tug of war contest tested the strength of every man. It was a proof of how effectively we are utilising the college gymnasium. But strength alone wont do anything good. It was team work and alertness that decided the winners. You must be able to understand the weakness of both your opponent and your team mates. One loose hand will make the cup slip from your hands. And the pain of losing the cup by a fraction is more than that caused by the rough rope on your palm.

You cannot comment on the best maveli contest. It was simply amazing and outstanding. First time in history, king mahabali would have confused seeing so many duplicates of his own. They were not at all duplicates. You can say they were the Photostat copies or clones. Such was the originality in the attire and makeup. It showed how carefully every class worked to make their own mark in the competition. The “postgraduate maveli” from mca, welcomed all the  guests at the entrance of the central complex.

Vadamvali

What ever be the facts, we had a great time in the college. Those who missed, missed a lot. We have nothing to return but thanks to the student coordinators from the fourth year and to the students council. It was indeed memorable. At least for a moment each amalite would have whispered in their mind, “if there is a paradise on earth, it is here, it is here, it is here….” .
